This photograph of the home of V.T. (Velorus Todd) Hills, located at 54 W. Lincoln Avenue, is from the "City Homes" collection of Robert Powers. The home was built in the early 1870s, and "was considered the greatest mansion in town at the time it was built." (Driving tour of Delaware, 1994). V.T. Hills was the son of Reuben Elmer Hills and brother of Chauncey E. Hills and Reuben Edgar Hills. He returned to Delaware after the Civil War and managed his late father's wholesale grocery company. He was married to one of the Sanborn sisters (Amelia) and convinced his sister-in-law Anne Sanborn Clason to donate money to build Sanborn Hall, Ohio Wesleyan's music building. The house at 54 W. Lincoln was used by the Hills family until 1915, when it became the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity house. In the 1960s, the house became the Sunny Vee Nursing Home. |
