The L.A. Beeghly Library is named in honor of Youngstown industrialist Leon A. Beeghly, who gave a challenge gift of $1,000,000 in 1963 to the OWU Library Building Fund. The gift was given "in recogntion of his Ohio Wesleyan children and grandchildren." Beeghly was not a graduate of OWU. The architect for the library building was C. Curtiss Inscho of Columbus, Ohio. The four floor, 105,000 square foot library cost $2,100,668 to erect and furnish. It was the first building in a planned mall that would connect the west residential side of campus with the east academic side. The library was dedicated on October 21, 1966. |
